6DOS: THE LIBRARY is one of the most complex VRML environments available on the Internet today, designed for the future of bandwidth where capacity and speed are no longer an issue. For optimum performance, it should be viewed via a T1 connection using Cosmo Player 2.1.1. This mediawork has the support of the Canada Council for the Arts Millennium Arts Fund and is a co-production with the Banff Centre for the Arts (Banff, Canada) and the Bell Centre for Creative Communications (Toronto, Canada) where Nancy Paterson is currently Artist in Residence. 6DOS: THE LIBRARY follows on the heels of the recently completed tele-robotic and Internet-interactive project titled STOCK MARKET SKIRT. These two projects address issues of interactivity and bandwidth. STOCK MARKET SKIRT has received international media attention recently - with articles appearing in FLASH ART (Milan), TEMA CELESTE (Milan) and DUTCH (Amsterdam). These articles are available in PDF format here. Modelled on Canada's national Parliamentary Library, 6DOS: THE LIBRARY enables viewers to access millennial objects created in collaboration with select Canadian artists and programmers. Participating artists include: Ann Medina, Beryl Fox, Al Razutis. Emerging themes include navigation and wayfinding. These objects are located within a 3D hyperspace representation of the Library. Navigating throughout this 3D environment, the viewer will find a world globe which utilizes a constantly updated satellite image of the earth as its texture (correctly shaded for the position of the sun). Read about the Library in NewMedia Pro Magazine, "Waiting for the Future".
